6 Dental Conferences to Attend in 2020

Written by Amy Carbone | Mar 23, 2020 1:00:00 PM

Network, increase your service offerings, and learn how the industry is evolving by attending some of the top dental conferences in the industry this year. Here are seven to consider.

1. ADA FDC 2020

The American Dental Association is a leader in dental research and best practices in the industry. If you are able to attend only one or two conferences this year, make one the ADA Florida Dental Convention. The conference takes place in Orlando, Florida from October 14 to October 18, 2020 and will be combined with the Florida Dental Association conference for a massive 5-day event.

Past continuing education course highlights at ADA conferences include botox in the dental practice, sleep medicine, CAD/CAM technology, forensic dentistry, laser dentistry, dental marketing, and practice growth. The ADA has also hosted special CE options, such as campfire sessions, science theater, exhibitor spotlights, and a live patient series.

2. AAO Annual Session 2020

The American Association of Orthodontists will hold their annual meeting in Atlanta, GA from May 1-4, 2020. Dubbed the world's largest orthodontic tradeshow, the AAO Annual Session offers a wide variety of exciting networking and continuing education opportunities for orthodontists and their support staff. This conference boasts 250 lectures, 400 exhibitors, and 16,000 attendees on average each year.

On the schedule this year are continuing education lectures on collaborative concepts in dentistry, oral research, adult and pediatric CPR, women in orthodontics, and dental practice transition. The AAO also offers opportunities to network outside of education -- sign up for the morning fun run on Sunday, May 3, or enjoy a non-denominational prayer service.

3. AACD Annual Scientific Session

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry is hosting its yearly conference in the spring of 2020, from April 22-25. For dental practices that do any cosmetic work -- and most do -- the AACD conference is one not to miss. With over 30 hands-on workshops, continuing education gets a kinesthetic makeover at the AACD meeting. Be sure to sign up for these classes first -- they are limited to two per attendee and fill up quickly.

There are also 25+ lectures and 50+ speakers, creating multiple learning opportunities for dentists, dental associates, and staff members. Courses include fresh takes on porcelain veneers, dental photography, working with direct resin, smile design, digital workflows, and video marketing.

4. AGD 2020

The American Academy of General Dentistry Conference is one of the major meetings for general dentistry. If your practice specializes in general dentistry or offers general dental care services, AGD2020 is a can't-miss opportunity. Taking place at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, NV from July 15 to July 18, the conference is also one of the most affordable continuing education opportunities in the dental industry today.

Conference highlights include CE bundle packages, new dentist lounge, emerging speakers, blended learning sessions, and one-hour lectures. Dentists can expect to find courses on managing pediatric dental trauma, pulp therapy, airway therapy, Botox and dermal fillers, suturing techniques, bone grafting, pharmacology, and more. The AGD also offers "Wine Down" sessions after classes to provide opportunities for dental professionals to network away from the classroom.

5. ADHA Annual Conference

The ADHA Annual Conference is possibly the largest and most affordable dental conference for hygienists. Focusing solely on providing educational content for hygiene professionals, the meeting spans three days and takes place in New Orleans, LA from June 12-14. Although exhibitions and educational materials are geared toward oral hygiene, you do not have to be a hygienist to attend. Registration is open to anyone, and many dental practice owners attend with their staff members.

Attendees can seek learning opportunities in multiple different formats, including lectures, hands-on workshops, seminars, flash sessions, and Masterclasses. Courses are assigned one of three education levels -- beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

6. International Conference on Dental Public Health and Dental Diseases

To stay on the forefront of the dental industry, it's also important to attend international conferences. This allows you to get a feel for where dentistry is headed on a global scale, and what technologies, techniques, and best practices dentists in other countries are using. Attendees include general dentists and dental specialists, dental office directors or managers, dental nurses, hygienists, and treatment coordinators.

The International Conference on Dental Public Health and Dental Diseases takes place in Toronto, Canada on May 8-9, 2020. Educational courses include but are not limited to lectures and seminars on molecular and cell biology, dental biomaterials and bioengineering, dental hygiene, advanced dental research, prosthodontics, periodontology, sleep medicine, and forensic dentistry.
